US spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in $626 million over three trading days in early August, with BlackRock's IBIT fund absorbing $479 million of that total. The buying came even as the Crypto Fear & Greed Index sat at 25, a reading in "Extreme Fear" territory.

US spot Bitcoin ETFs absorbed $626 million in net inflows over three consecutive trading days in early August. BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust took the lion's share, with IBIT alone pulling in $479 million of that total, roughly 76% of all inflows going to a single fund. The fund has now built nearly $61 billion in cumulative net inflows since its launch.

The numbers behind the surge

One session inside the three-day run saw $244.4 million flow into spot Bitcoin ETFs in a single day, according to data tracked by Farside Investors. Bitcoin itself traded between $64,744 and $64,920 during the period, with a brief spike above the top of that range.

Total cumulative net inflows across all US spot Bitcoin ETFs now stand at approximately $52.39 billion since the products launched in January 2024, minus redemptions. Spot Ether ETFs caught a bid in the same window, taking in $60.9 million on their strongest day and $114.6 million over two days.

Institutional buying against retail fear

The rally follows a mixed first half of 2026, when periods of meaningful outflows and volatility kept some institutional investors on the sidelines. Even so, IBIT has consistently been the preferred entry point for institutional exposure to a spot Bitcoin ETF, largely because of BlackRock's distribution network and brand trust.

Even so, the latest buying landed while the Crypto Fear & Greed Index sat at 25, a reading squarely in "Extreme Fear" territory that typically correlates with retail capitulation. That divergence between the Fear and Greed Index reading and institutional flows is the most interesting signal here: sophisticated allocators are adding exposure at prices they apparently consider attractive, while retail sentiment points the other way.

ETF inflows translate directly into Bitcoin purchases by fund administrators, creating structural buying pressure. If the three-day pace held for a full month, it would translate to roughly $4 billion in net buying.
