Ripple released 1 billion XRP from escrow on Oct. 1, adding fresh supply as the token holds near $1.50. U.S. spot XRP ETFs pulled in $121.4 million in September, yet the price still hasn't cleared the $1.54-$1.56 resistance zone that has repeatedly held.
Ripple released 1 billion XRP from escrow shortly after 00:00 UTC on Oct. 1, splitting the tokens across four transactions of 400 million, 300 million, 200 million and 100 million XRP. Whale Alert tracked the 300 million XRP tranche at 00:00:02 UTC, valuing it at roughly $446.6 million with XRP near $1.49. An escrow release does not mean Ripple sells the full amount — the company has historically returned part of its monthly allocation to new escrow contracts or held it in company wallets.
XRP was already struggling to hold above $1.50 before the unlock, so the release adds another supply event for traders to watch rather than a confirmed reason for a selloff. The token has traded between about $1.48 and $1.54 over the past 24 hours, with a market cap above $93 billion.
ETF inflows haven't cleared the resistance
U.S. spot XRP ETFs attracted $121.4 million during September, taking cumulative inflows since launch to roughly $1.79 billion. XRP dropped from its Sept. 23 high near $1.66 to around $1.49 over the same stretch, reducing the value of tokens the funds already hold. Price action has therefore lagged the size of the reported ETF inflows, since exchange selling, derivatives positioning and Ripple's own distributions can offset demand.
Can XRP clear $1.54?
The daily chart shows XRP's 14-period RSI at 55.70, down from its moving average of 59.27 but still above the neutral 50 line. The Aroon Oscillator reads about 42.86, pointing to an upward bias even as momentum cools. Analyst Ali Martinez identified $1.54 as the breakout level from a symmetrical triangle on the hourly chart, projecting a possible move of roughly 10% toward $1.70 if XRP closes an hour above it. EGRAG Crypto instead pointed to $1.64 as the first higher level in a longer macro retest, with a weekly reclaim above $1.92 needed for stronger confirmation.
For now, 1.54-1.56 remains the first resistance area, with 1.46-1.48 providing immediate support. A sustained move above that zone would put $1.60 and the September high near $1.66 back in focus, while a break below $1.46 would weaken the current consolidation.
