U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $678.9 million in net outflows during Oct. 5–9, reversing the preceding week's inflows. Two sessions, Oct. 7 and Oct. 8, drove the withdrawals. The two-week flow total is now negative.
U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $678.9 million in net outflows during Oct. 5–9, according to The Defiant's calculations of Farside Investors' daily data. The week reversed the inflows of the preceding week.
The withdrawal followed net inflows of $241.1 million during Sept. 28–Oct. 2. That amounts to a $920 million deterioration between two five-session weeks and leaves the combined period with $437.8 million in net withdrawals.
Two sessions drive the withdrawals
The funds lost $484.9 million on Oct. 7 and $244.1 million on Oct. 8, a combined $729 million, according to Farside's figures. BlackRock's IBIT led the Oct. 7 withdrawals with $207.7 million, followed by Fidelity's FBTC at $105.1 million and ARKB at $101.7 million. FBTC then led the next day's exits with $197.1 million.
However, outflows were not continuous. The week opened with an $89.8 million net outflow on Oct. 5, followed by a $118.8 million inflow on Oct. 6. It ended with a $21.1 million inflow on Oct. 9, when IBIT's $22.4 million intake and HODL's $2.3 million inflow outweighed FBTC's $3.6 million withdrawal.
The pullback trims September's recovery
The pullback chipped away at September's recovery. The Defiant reported on Sept. 28 that seven sessions through Sept. 25 had attracted $2.98 billion, returning the funds' 2026 net flows to positive territory.
Meanwhile, the annual balance remains positive on SoSoValue's data. A separate Defiant calculation using that provider's rounded cumulative-flow totals puts 2026 net inflows at about $500 million through Oct. 9, down from about $940 million through Sept. 25. SoSoValue put the funds' combined net assets at $105.84 billion as of Oct. 9.
