President Donald Trump defended Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang after a report that a Chinese executive passed information to Beijing after interacting with him. Nvidia called the contact routine, and China's Foreign Ministry rejected the allegations. The reporting does not accuse Huang of wrongdoing.
President Donald Trump came to the defense of Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang on Saturday, praising him as brilliant after a report that Huang was the target of a Chinese espionage effort. Trump also said the United States was examining the matter very closely.
What the reporting alleges
The New York Times reported on Thursday that US intelligence officials concluded a Chinese executive tied to a Singapore-based data center company had been sending information to Beijing. That executive had interacted with Huang.
The findings in the October 29 report date back roughly a year. The allegation is that the executive developed close ties with Huang and then allegedly funneled information to the Chinese government. According to research findings tied to the coverage, the person is Alice Huang, a former executive of Singapore-based Megaspeed.
Trump was also reportedly briefed on the intelligence findings in late 2025, according to anonymous sources. He took no public action at that point.
Nvidia and Beijing respond
Trump's reaction on Saturday, October 31, mixed loyalty with caution. He also signaled he would likely keep Huang on as an adviser unless further evidence emerges.
Nvidia offered a procedural defense. The company said Huang holds routine business discussions with numerous customer executives every year.
China's Foreign Ministry went further. According to the source, it dismissed the allegations as "groundless" and characterized them as an attempt to tarnish the country's image.
Reputational risk for Nvidia
For Nvidia, the immediate risk is reputational rather than legal. Nothing in the reporting accuses Huang of wrongdoing; the allegation concerns the executive who interacted with him.
Megaspeed's own exposure to the allegations remains unclear from the available reporting. For now, Huang has the president's backing and his company's defense.
