Tesla has registered a local sales subsidiary in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, with charter capital of about $3 million, according to a business registration filing reviewed by Reuters. The move gives Tesla a formal legal entity for vehicle wholesale and retail in the country, though it does not confirm a sales launch date, lineup, or pricing.
A new legal entity in Ho Chi Minh City
Tesla has registered Tesla Motors Vietnam Limited Liability Company in Ho Chi Minh City, with charter capital of about 77.7 billion dong (roughly $3 million), according to a Vietnamese business registration filing reviewed by Reuters and reported on September 14, 2026. The filing puts a formal local sales entity on the books in one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing EV markets.
The company was established on September 11 and lists wholesale and retail sales of automobiles and parts, plus related import, export, and distribution activities. Its registered office sits at Me Linh Point Tower, 2 Ngo Duc Ke Street, Saigon Ward, Ho Chi Minh City. The filing names David Jon Feinstein, a U.S. national with an Austin address, as chairman, Isabel Ching Fan as general director, and Nguyen Manh Hung as assistant to the general director.
Tesla did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. Vietnamese reporting stresses that registration alone does not announce a sales launch date, vehicle lineup, pricing, showrooms, service sites, or a charging plan.
From gray-market imports to a legal channel
Tesla cars have mostly entered Vietnam through gray-market imports while local rival VinFast scaled at home. A named importer-distributor vehicle with clear wholesale and retail lines is typically the first legal step before any official delivery calendar, and it sits alongside SpaceX's earlier Starlink license path in the country. For now, the entity is a corporate shell that would let Tesla move vehicles through a compliant import and retail channel if and when the company chooses to open sales — it is not confirmation that Model Y or Model 3 orders are imminent.
What comes next
What to watch is whether Tesla or Tesla Asia publishes a Vietnam order page, pricing, or store locations, and whether the Ho Chi Minh City entity adds service or charging disclosures beyond the bare registration. No such disclosures have surfaced yet.
