Solana's early-July rally faded before it could reclaim $80, leaving the token stuck in a narrow range near $74. Weak trend strength and modest ETF inflows suggest buyers still lack the conviction for a breakout, even as institutional demand keeps growing.
Solana traded around $74.28, just below the Bollinger Band midpoint, after its early-July bounce ran out of steam short of $80. The token now sits boxed between a support floor and a resistance band that has repeatedly capped rallies.
Solana's July rally lost momentum
July has historically been one of Solana's strongest months: the token reportedly delivered a median return of 21.4% over its previous six Julys. This year fell short of that pattern.
SOL climbed above $82 in early July before giving back most of the gain, leaving it well below its January 2025 peak near $294. That $74.93 midpoint is the first hurdle buyers must clear before testing the stronger $78-$80 resistance zone that has repeatedly capped rallies.
Technical indicators show a market waiting for direction
Solana's Average Directional Index stood at 13.53, well below the widely watched 20 threshold that typically signals a developing trend. Meanwhile, the Negative Directional Indicator measured 22.56 against 16.82 for the +DI, giving sellers a modest edge.
However, the weak ADX reading suggests that edge remains limited. The lower Bollinger Band sits near $71.56, and a break below it could expose the $68 support area.
On the upside, SOL would first need to reclaim $78.30 before challenging the $80-$82 zone that has repeatedly capped rallies. Trading volume has also kept declining since June's sell-off, reinforcing the picture of investors waiting for a stronger catalyst.
ETF demand stays positive but subdued
Institutional demand for the Solana ETF has kept improving gradually. US spot Solana ETFs held about $889 million in combined assets as of July 27. Cumulative net inflows have reached roughly $1.16 billion. The latest reported daily inflow totaled only around $1.03 million, though, suggesting institutional interest remains positive but hasn't accelerated enough to push SOL through overhead resistance.
Until trading volume and inflows both pick up together, SOL looks more likely to stay range-bound than mount a sustained recovery toward its early-July highs.
