Silver fell back below $50 on Tuesday, erasing Monday's recovery, while oil, Treasury yields and the Dollar offered little explanation. The Gold/Silver ratio surged toward 80. ActionForex points to broader risk reduction tied to AI financing worries, but says that link remains unconfirmed.
Silver fell around 3.1% to $49.05 on Tuesday, while Gold lost less than 1%. The drop wiped out the whole of Monday's gain.
On Monday, silver recovered from Friday's close near $49.11 to finish around $50.64, helped by a sharp fall in WTI crude on reports of renewed US-Iran diplomatic activity.
Oil, yields and the Dollar do not explain the drop
Tuesday's move does not fit an inflation or tighter-policy story particularly well. WTI recovered to around $98.02, up from Monday's close near $96.25. The US 2-year Treasury yield was little changed near 4.594%, and the Dollar Index slipped to approximately 101.67.
Other metals fell too, but less than silver. Copper was down around 2.7% and platinum about 1.1%, according to ActionForex. Its analysis suggests the pressure extends beyond the usual inflation-and-yields channel.
Nasdaq and Asian tech fall as AI financing questions resurface
The weakness in tech shares may offer a clue. Nasdaq closed down 1.07% at 25,164.32 on Monday after an early gain of approximately 0.7%.
Oracle became a focal point after it announced plans to raise $20 billion through common stock and senior notes to fund AI infrastructure, and its shares fell approximately 6%. Then South Korea's KOSPI fell approximately 3.6% on Tuesday.
ActionForex calls the connection to silver an interpretation rather than a confirmed explanation. Silver's industrial exposure could make it more vulnerable than Gold, but futures-positioning data, ETF flows and other evidence of forced liquidation would be needed to establish a link.
Gold/Silver ratio approaches 80
The Gold/Silver ratio climbed approximately 2.3% to around 79.6 on Tuesday and has gained roughly 7% over the past week. Both metals are under pressure, but silver is falling much faster.
Its rapid advance has also pushed momentum indicators into overbought territory, which makes a temporary pause or retracement possible, according to ActionForex.
AMD and Super Micro are scheduled to report earnings after Tuesday's US close, a test of investor confidence in AI-related investment.
