Robinhood Chain's decentralized exchange volume fell 72.5% between its Jul. 11 peak and Aug. 1, even as transactions, deposits and stablecoin supply climbed to record highs. More than 90% of the incentives the chain pays out go to depositors rather than traders, and a memecoin has moved with the chain's volume through the fall and the bounce.

Robinhood Chain's decentralized exchange volume fell 72.5% between its Jul. 11 peak and Aug. 1, even as every other headline metric on the network kept climbing.

Volume Down, Everything Else Up

Daily volume peaked at about $878 million on Jul. 11, ten days after the chain went live. It then bottomed at $241 million on Aug. 1.

The seven-day average fell from $671 million to $356 million in the week ending Aug. 5, a 47% decline. The drop is specific to Robinhood Chain: its share of global DEX volume fell from 16.65% at the peak to 4.32% on Aug. 2 while volume across all chains rose over the same stretch. Volume has since recovered somewhat, reaching $665 million by 16:30 UTC on Aug. 6, an incomplete day.

Transactions, total value locked and stablecoin supply moved the other way. Transactions hit 13.3 million on Aug. 5, the chain's highest ever. Total value locked reached a record $433 million on Aug. 6, up from $47 million on Jul. 8, and stablecoin supply climbed to a record $597 million.

Smaller Trades, More Of Them

Dividing volume by transactions shows what changed. Each transaction corresponded to $105.56 of DEX volume on Jul. 13, which fell to $27.82 by Aug. 4, a 74% drop, before recovering to $39.07 on Aug. 5.

Incentives Favor Depositors Over Traders

Nineteen live incentive campaigns pay a combined $58,351 a day on Robinhood Chain. Two of them account for $53,808 of that, or 92%, and both reward deposits rather than trading.

The largest pays $29,514 a day for USDe deposits in a Morpho market against USDG. The second pays $24,294 a day for supplying a Steakhouse USDG vault restricted to Robinhood users.

The 11 campaigns aimed at trading liquidity split $4,543 a day between them. Martin Gaspar, senior crypto market strategist at FalconX, flagged the risk on Jul. 20, writing that "the initial burst of activity may reflect hype over substance."

CASHCAT Tracks The Swings

CASHCAT, the memecoin named after Robinhood's original mascot, has moved with the chain's volume through the fall and the bounce. The log of daily DEX volume and the log of CASHCAT's price carry a correlation of 0.63 across 29 days from Jul. 8 to Aug. 5.

The token hit a record $0.2288 on Jul. 11, the peak volume day, then bottomed at $0.036 on Jul. 28. It traded at $0.1115 on Aug. 6, up 31.7% on the day.
