Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse broke his silence after attending a White House crypto meeting and joining the CFTC's new Innovation Advisory Committee. He said the message from both gatherings, including from traditional finance participants, was the same: existing rules no longer fit the current market.

Brad Garlinghouse spoke publicly for the first time after attending a crypto meeting at the White House earlier this week and joining the CFTC's Innovation Advisory Committee, which he calls "the Olympic rules of crypto." He noted that even with numerous participants from the traditional finance world in the room, the conclusion was unanimous: old rules do not work under the current market environment.

White House Meeting Puts CLARITY Act Center Stage

The gathering was organized by the Trump administration, with the president meeting executives from Coinbase, Ripple, Gemini, and other crypto companies alongside the chairmen of the SEC and CFTC. Perhaps the most important part of the agenda was the highly anticipated CLARITY Act, and Trump called on Congress to pass a fair version of the bill to help keep the US ahead of China.

Policymakers continue to fight over the legislation, which passed the House of Representatives in July 2025 but stalled in the Senate over issues including ethics provisions, stablecoin rewards, and tokenized equities. Garlinghouse said afterward it was great to be back at the White House alongside Trump, CFTC's Mike Selig, and SEC's Paul Atkins.

He pointed to a broader shift behind the policy push: since one in four Americans own digital assets, he said crypto is no longer a fringe industry, and Washington knows the crypto voter is active.

After the CFTC Meeting

Garlinghouse also commented after the CFTC session, noting that all parties involved, including those from the TradFi world, believe the current written regulatory rules reflect a different era and are not good enough for today's market. He added that the existing framework falls short for both business and innovation.
