PayPal has folded its crypto business into a new unit called Payment Services & Crypto, and new CEO Enrique Lores set explicit revenue targets for it alongside the company's two other divisions. The move follows a Q2 2026 earnings beat that gave Lores room to reshape how the company reports crypto's contribution.

PayPal now puts a number on crypto's place in the business, not just a mention. New CEO Enrique Lores set explicit revenue targets for each of the company's three business units, one of them named "Payment Services & Crypto." The announcement, made on August 5, follows a reorganization Lores put in place on April 29 that split PayPal into three divisions.

Three divisions, one crypto unit

The split works like this. Checkout Solutions & PayPal covers the core online payments business, and Consumer Financial Services & Venmo packages peer-to-peer payments with broader consumer finance.

Payment Services & Crypto bundles Braintree, small and medium-sized business merchant services, and all of PayPal's crypto operations under one roof.

Lores, who replaced former CEO Alex Chriss on March 1, wants shareholders to see what each piece is worth on its own. Previous reporting structures made it hard to separate how much value crypto, Braintree, or Venmo generated individually. Segmented reporting changes that, and it gives analysts a way to model crypto's growth apart from the rest of the business.

Q2 earnings beat gave Lores room to move

The restructuring lands on the back of a strong quarter. PayPal's Q2 2026 revenue grew 5% year-over-year to $8.68 billion, beating analyst estimates of $8.47 billion. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $1.38, clearing the consensus forecast of $1.28 by nearly 8%.

PayPal also raised its full-year profit outlook. The company is targeting $400 million in run-rate savings for 2026, with a longer-term goal of cutting $1.5 billion from its expense base.

PYUSD gets a dedicated growth engine

The restructuring matters most for PYUSD, the stablecoin PayPal launched in 2023 to bridge traditional payments and blockchain rails. The Payment Services & Crypto unit now has an organizational incentive to push PYUSD through Braintree's merchant network and its small-business services.

Stablecoin regulation remains in flux across major markets, and a restrictive framework could constrain PYUSD's growth. The competition isn't standing still either: Block's Cash App has been deepening its Bitcoin integration, and Stripe acquired Bridge, a stablecoin infrastructure company.

Revenue targets bring quarterly scorecards. A dedicated unit means a team whose careers now depend on making PYUSD work.
