Optimism's OP token jumped nearly 18% in 24 hours, extending its four-week gain to about 66% while bitcoin and ether lagged. Starknet's STRK posted a much larger multiweek rally, according to The Defiant's comparison of CoinGecko price data.
Optimism's OP token jumped nearly 18% in the 24 hours ending at 5 p.m. ET on Oct. 13, extending its four-week gain to about 66%. Bitcoin and ether lagged over the same period.
CoinGecko's price series put OP at $0.1595, up from $0.1353 at the same time a day earlier. Over that window, bitcoin gained about 0.4%, while ether slipped 0.3%, according to The Defiant's calculations.
OP outpaces bitcoin and ether over weeks
The divergence extended beyond the daily surge. OP gained about 21% over seven days, compared with declines of 2.6% for bitcoin and 7% for ether.
Over 28 days, bitcoin rose about 9.8% and ether gained 4.3%, well behind OP's advance. The path was uneven, however. CoinGecko's sampled history shows OP retreating from roughly $0.146 in late September to about $0.120 on Oct. 7 before recovering.
Starknet's STRK rallies harder among Layer 2 tokens
OP also outperformed Arbitrum's ARB, which fell about 6.3% over seven days and gained 30.6% over 28 days. Starknet's STRK, however, climbed about 64% and 211%, respectively, putting its multiweek rally well ahead of OP's.
The Defiant notes these are selected token comparisons, not a ranking of the entire Layer 2 market. All returns use CoinGecko's dollar-price observations at 5 p.m. ET on Oct. 13, matched against observations on Oct. 12, Oct. 6 and Sept. 15, and they measure price changes between those endpoints, not intraday highs or uninterrupted gains.
OP carries a governance role in the Optimism ecosystem. According to the Optimism Foundation, holders can vote with their tokens or delegate them, while Token House members vote on OP Stack upgrades that the Security Council implements.
