Meta has built a prototype humanoid robot with Chinese startup Fourier and is working on a second version, The Information reported on Saturday, citing people familiar with the initiative. Reuters, which relayed the report, could not immediately verify it.
A separate social media claim, which described a robot named Max built in three months, drew scrutiny from Crypto Briefing. It found no announcements or technical documentation from Meta or Fourier describing such a robot, and no evidence of a formal partnership between Meta and Fourier Intelligence as of October 2026.
Still, the robotics push on Meta's side is real. The company set up a robotics research team inside Reality Labs in 2025, the division responsible for its virtual and augmented reality hardware, and Marc Whitten, the former CEO of Cruise, leads it.
Meta also acquired Assured Robot Intelligence in May 2026 to expand its humanoid AI capabilities. Whether that work now includes a prototype built with Fourier remains the open question.
