Brazilian exchange Mercado Bitcoin kept deposits and withdrawals suspended after a security incident on Nov. 2. It says customers suffered no losses, but it has disclosed no total loss and no reopening time.

Mercado Bitcoin kept deposits and withdrawals suspended after a security incident on Nov. 2, leaving customers unable to move funds into or out of the Brazilian exchange while its teams worked to restore operations.

Exchange says customers lost nothing

The exchange said it had quickly identified and contained an incident in one of its systems. According to Mercado Bitcoin: "There were no losses to customers," and it added that no data had leaked.

However, neither statement disclosed a total loss or a reopening time. Crypto.news reported that the company did not say which system was compromised, and that it called the suspension a precautionary measure while the investigation continued.

Disclosed wallets show incident-linked transfers

In a later update, the exchange identified destination addresses involved in movements related to the incident. The disclosed Bitcoin address received approximately 106.07 BTC, while an Ethereum transaction sent 2,852.07 ETH to the disclosed Ethereum-compatible address.

Mercado Bitcoin said it was sharing the addresses exclusively for identification and tracking purposes. The addresses span Bitcoin, Ethereum-compatible networks, Solana, Stellar and Tron, giving investigators destinations to trace.

The Defiant noted that these records quantify selected incident-linked movements, not the exchange's total or net loss. The Ethereum transaction was valued by Etherscan at approximately $6.5 million.

Investigation continues

The exchange said its teams were investigating, tracing assets and coordinating measures with the relevant authorities. Its latest update said work to restore operations safely was continuing.

Crypto.news noted the incident follows a series of security breaches across the crypto industry over the past week, including the October 29 Binance hack.
