MediaMarktSaturn has removed all Ledger products from its stores and online platforms after reports of tampered devices. Ledger says it is investigating reports beyond the Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis.
MediaMarktSaturn, the parent company of European retailer MediaMarkt, removed Ledger products from its stores and online platforms amid reports of tampered hardware wallets. A spokesperson said the group is in contact with the manufacturer. According to the spokesperson: "We take this incident very seriously."
An X user known as Johannes claimed on Monday that he bought two Ledger wallets from separate MediaMarkt stores. He said both contained unauthorized cables and cellular modules.
The concerns first surfaced on Friday, when Ledger said it was investigating reports of losses involving devices sold through CryptoBilis. On Tuesday, Ledger said implants transmitted users' recovery phrases over cellular networks, and that it was looking into reports beyond CryptoBilis.
Separately, former Mt. Gox CEO Mark Karpelès said on Tuesday that a Ledger Flex he bought at Singapore's airport contained a spy implant. Ledger responded by pointing users to its latest CryptoBilis investigation update, without directly addressing the Singapore case.
Cointelegraph asked Ledger whether it had confirmed any tampered devices in Europe. Ledger had not responded by publication time.
