Mastercard has signed on as a sponsor of the XRP Ledger Hackathon, a pre-event to the Ripple Swell 2026 conference. Separately, 21Shares switched the pricing benchmark for its XRP ETF and changed how its sponsor gets paid.
The XRP Ledger Foundation welcomed Mastercard as a sponsor of the XRP Ledger Hackathon, a 36-hour event scheduled for October 24-25. The hackathon runs just ahead of Ripple Swell 2026, the industry conference set for October 27 to October 29.
According to the XRP Ledger Foundation: "the XRP network is ideally suited for payment use cases". The sponsorship follows Mastercard's broader push into the Ripple ecosystem. In March, Mastercard enlisted Ripple alongside Binance, Gemini, PayPal, Paxos, and Circle in a partnership program connecting blockchain with its global payments infrastructure. Then, in June, Mastercard expanded its stablecoin support to include Ripple's RLUSD and Circle's USDC, building further on the same stablecoin integration.
21Shares also updated its XRP ETF, ticker TOXR. An SEC filing showed the fund moved its pricing benchmark from the CME Group to the new FTSE XRP Index, effective today. The change comes amid renewed inflows into XRP ETFs more broadly.
Alongside the pricing switch, 21Shares also changed how it pays TOXR's sponsor. Instead of weekly payments, the sponsor will now be paid once every three months, and in XRP rather than cash.
