Litecoin completed 15 years of continuous blockchain operation this week, and Grayscale's head of research publicly highlighted the milestone. The network processes around 156,000 transactions a day at an average fee of just $0.003, while Grayscale pushes to convert its Litecoin Trust into a spot ETF on NYSE Arca.
The Litecoin network completed 15 years of uninterrupted operation since its 2011 genesis block this week. Grayscale's head of research, Zach Pandl, pointed to an unusual surge in mentions of the coin, publicly describing it as an "OG altcoin."
Uptime streak comes with heavy on-chain activity
The network has operated without a single outage or shutdown since day one. As of October 7, 2026, on-chain data shows the blockchain processing around 156,000 transactions per day, while its MWEB privacy pool has reached a record size of more than 563,000 LTC.
Its average transaction fee remains just $0.003, making the network several times more efficient than Bitcoin for everyday payments. Its security is backed by a hashrate of 2,671.43 TH/s and 9.10 million active addresses.
Grayscale pushes for a NYSE listing
Grayscale is not involved in the coin's development. The firm manages the largest investment product tied to the coin, the Grayscale Litecoin Trust (LTCN), which holds net assets of $97,560,938 across 24.25 million shares outstanding.
In September, the firm filed an amended application to convert the trust into a spot ETF listed on NYSE Arca. SEC approval remains pending, and a smaller fund from Canary Capital is already trading, though Grayscale's product remains the main bridge for institutional investors.
Litecoin enters its 15th anniversary not as a forgotten relic of the early crypto era, but as a legally compliant altcoin. The coin is now positioned for a full-fledged debut on the world's leading stock exchange.
