Iran and the United States are not engaged in talks, and Tehran will not begin them while Washington continues to breach an interim deal signed in June, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Sunday. Messages between the two countries are currently passing only through intermediaries, he added.
Araqchi repeated Iran's position that a Strait of Hormuz shipping accord between Tehran and Muscat is in its "final stages." The deal itself would not reopen the strategic waterway, he said. According to Mehr news agency, the agreement would set new shipping lanes to be used once the United States meets other conditions and the strait reopens to traffic.
