Germany's Ifo business climate index rose to 90.2 in October, beating economists' forecasts. Stronger expectations for the economy's future drove the gain, while the assessment of current conditions weakened.
The Ifo business climate index increased to 90.2 in October from 89.9 in September, according to data the Ifo institute released on Monday. Economists surveyed had anticipated a smaller gain to 90.0.
Expectations carried the improvement. The institute's economic expectations component climbed to 91.6 from 90.4 the previous month.
However, the current-conditions reading moved the other way. That index fell to 88.8 from 89.5 in September.
