Yossi Cohen, who led Mossad from 2015 to 2021, told an audience at the Galilee Conference that Israeli operatives entered Iran's fortified Fordow nuclear facility on repeated occasions. He left it unclear whether agents were physically inside the site or relied on remote surveillance, and said Iran's uranium stockpile remains short of weapons grade.

Yossi Cohen, the former director of Mossad, told an audience at the Galilee Conference on August 11 that Israeli operatives had entered Iran's Fordow uranium enrichment facility many times. Fordow sits deep inside a mountain near the city of Qom, built specifically to withstand aerial bombardment and outside interference.

Cohen describes operatives touring the site

Cohen, who led Mossad from 2015 to 2021, described operatives touring or walking around the Fordow facility on multiple occasions. He never specified whether those operatives physically entered the site or whether the visits involved advanced surveillance and remote intelligence-gathering instead.

Cohen also led an earlier operation in 2018, when Israeli operatives extracted a massive trove of Iran's nuclear program files from a warehouse in Tehran.

Cohen addresses the US strike on Fordow

Cohen also addressed the US military strike on Fordow carried out during Operation Rising Lion in June 2025. According to Crypto Briefing: he called it "the fulfillment of all my dreams". Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, however, characterized the damage from the bombing campaign as limited.

Iran's enrichment still short of weapons grade

Cohen said Iran had enriched uranium to 60% purity but added that this remained still far from a bomb. Weapons-grade uranium typically requires enrichment to around 90%, leaving Tehran's stockpile below the threshold for a functional weapon.
