Eurozone government bond yields edged lower on Monday as falling global energy prices helped ease immediate inflation concerns. The move followed a retreat in crude oil futures after U.S. President Donald Trump announced an unconfirmed energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

German yields slip as energy costs fall

Germany's 10-year government bond yield dropped to 3.46%. The two-year German Bund yield slipped to 3.07%.

The drop in energy input costs gave cross-asset desks a temporary buffer against the yield pressure of prior weeks.

France still faces fiscal doubts

French sovereign paper also caught a bid after weeks of duration liquidation. The 10-year OAT yield eased to 4.84%, and the two-year French yield pulled back to 3.625%.

However, fixed-income allocators caution that the structural headwinds facing French debt remain unresolved. Markets are skeptical that Paris can enact proposed budget cuts to rein in its projected 5.4% GDP deficit, and investors maintain a substantial risk premium over German Bunds.

Energy relief may not last

Fixed-income desks say the yield relief could prove short-lived. They note that neither Kyiv nor Moscow has formally verified any energy pause, and that Ukrainian strikes on Russian refining infrastructure continue to disrupt fuel supplies.

Meanwhile, institutional desks are calibrating rate expectations for the European Central Bank ahead of upcoming macroeconomic prints and corporate earnings reports. Money markets continue to price a cautious, step-by-step ECB policy path.
