The historical X account of the independent Dogecoin Core developers now falls under Dogecoin Labs, a company within which MyDoge, DogeOS and Such App recently merged. Critics call the move de facto centralization, while Labs' leadership argues Dogecoin needs a unified commercial infrastructure.

A dispute has broken out in the Dogecoin community after the renaming of the Dogecoin Core developers' X account placed it under the management of Dogecoin Labs. The account was historically run by independent developers.

According to critics, the step means the de facto centralization of the project. Blogger Mishaboar, described as one of the community's most authoritative members, accused the Dogecoin Foundation's leadership of lobbying for private business interests.

Critics point to marketing on official channels

Mishaboar said the official Dogecoin channels are now used for aggressive marketing of commercial products. His claims include promotion of custodial solutions and calls to link personal data to wallets.

He also pointed to advertising of a cross-chain bridge that, according to Mishaboar, contained critical vulnerabilities at the time of publication. The opposition's position is that an honest business should build its own media resources instead of taking over the channels of a decentralized community.

A merger behind the dispute

The conflict followed a corporate merger. The MyDoge wallet, the DogeOS platform and the Such App payment service merged within the Dogecoin Labs structure, with support from the Dogecoin Foundation and the American public company House of Doge (HODO).

Dogecoin Labs, headed by Jordan Jefferson, justifies its actions pragmatically. Its argument is that without a unified commercial infrastructure and mass adoption of payment tools, Dogecoin is doomed to remain a speculative asset dependent on random tweets.

The Dogecoin Foundation, meanwhile, is trying to stay neutral. It states that development of Dogecoin Core will remain open, while Labs takes on only market expansion.

Proposed compromise on shared accounts

As a compromise, independent market participants propose stripping Labs of its monopoly on information. Their plan calls for decentralized management of shared accounts, with voting on content and regular rotation of moderators.

The conflict remains open. It leaves Dogecoin with a question: how to scale to the volumes of a global payment system while keeping its status as an independent "people's" startup.
