CoreWeave shares dropped nearly 25% in the week ending around October 16 as investors focused on the company's roughly $50 billion in debt. Its bonds sold off at the same time, and analysts are divided on whether the dip is a buying opportunity.
CoreWeave shares fell more than 15% in a single day in mid-October 2026. The stock dropped nearly 25% for the week ending around October 16.
The trigger was the balance sheet, not a broken product or a lost customer. The company carries approximately $50 billion in debt, largely accumulated to fund data center and chip purchases.
Bonds and credit swaps signal stress
Spending is not slowing. CoreWeave's 2026 capital expenditure guidance sits at $35-39 billion.
The company reported $5.1 billion in revenue for 2025 alongside a net loss of $1.2 billion. Analyst estimates for 2026 point to revenue of about $13 billion and also expect the losses to continue.
Yields on its 2030, 2031 and 2032 notes were implied to climb toward 15-16%, a sharp selloff in the debt. Pricing on its credit default swap contracts indicated a roughly 60%+ probability of default within five years. That is a market-implied figure, not a prediction from the company or a ratings agency.
From IPO pricing to a $54 share
The IPO in March 2025 priced at approximately $40 per share. The stock peaked at around $183 by June 2025, and by late October 2026 it traded around $54.
Other neocloud names, including Nebius and Applied Digital, were caught in the downdraft as investors scrutinized debt-funded AI buildouts.
Management and Wall Street disagree
CEO Mike Intrator pointed to a revenue backlog of more than $104 billion. Nvidia holds around 10% of CoreWeave and has a capacity purchase agreement running through April 2032.
Goldman Sachs and UBS view the dip as a potential buying opportunity, citing strong underlying demand for AI computing capacity. HSBC and Bernstein warn that elevated interest expenses could weigh on long-term economics.
Gartner projects that about 80% of neocloud providers could cease independent operations by 2030. That wording covers being acquired, not just going under.
