Ceffu, Binance's institutional custody partner, deposited 136.54 million USDC onto Binance before withdrawing 1,524 BTC and 59,484 ETH worth a combined $263.8 million in a single 30-minute window on Aug. 24. The move echoes a similar custody shift in July and lands in the middle of bitcoin's strongest weekly rally since March 2023.

Ceffu Repeats a Familiar Custody Pattern

Onchain sleuths reported that Ceffu deposited 136.54 million USDC into Binance before pulling 1,524 BTC (worth $117.89 million) and 59,484 ETH (approximately $145.92 million) off the exchange within half an hour. Combined, the withdrawal totaled $263.8 million.

Ceffu was rebranded from Binance Custody and now operates as Binance's institutional custody partner, offering large investors segregated cold storage and settlement services. This is not the first time Ceffu has moved large sums between the two platforms. In July, 3,000 BTC worth roughly $192 million moved from Binance to a Ceffu address across 12 separate transfers over 30 days.

Ceffu's custody infrastructure runs on multi-party computation technology paired with a customizable multi-approval scheme. The platform has expanded its institutional footprint this year, including its role as the institutional custody partner in EOS Network's advanced custody and CeDeFi offering.

Withdrawal Lands Amid Bitcoin's Sharpest Rally Since 2023

The withdrawal landed in the middle of bitcoin's strongest weekly performance since March 2023, with the asset up roughly 22% for the week after U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the department would at least double the size of its long-dated bond buybacks, a move that lowered yields and revived appetite for risk assets.

The same day, President Donald Trump met with crypto industry executives, including leaders from Coinbase Global and Payward, and urged the Senate to pass the Clarity Act. The rally forced traders to unwind roughly $3 billion in leveraged bearish bitcoin bets over three days, with liquidations across all crypto assets reaching $4.5 billion.

Custody Moves Read Differently Than Exchange Outflows

Large custody-partner withdrawals like Ceffu's are typically interpreted differently than a standard exchange outflow. Because the assets move from Binance's exchange balance directly into a known institutional custody address rather than a private or unidentified wallet, the activity is more consistent with settlement, rebalancing, or accumulation on behalf of large clients than a bearish signal.

Whether this particular withdrawal represents a single client transaction or a broader custody rebalancing has not been disclosed by either Binance or Ceffu.
