Cathie Wood's Ark Invest bought roughly $15 million of Nvidia shares on July 28, then $14.7 million of Taiwan Semiconductor stock the next day, in the same window as Meta's second-quarter results. Crypto Briefing reports Ark was also trimming its positions in Amazon, Alphabet, and Shopify, deploying an estimated $30 million combined into the two chip names.
Ark Invest bought roughly $15 million worth of Nvidia stock across five of its exchange-traded funds on July 28, with the largest single tranche, $8.1 million, going through the flagship ARK Innovation ETF. The very next day, Cathie Wood's firm spread a $14.7 million purchase of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing stock across four of its funds.
Meta's capex guidance drove the timing
The trades landed in the same window as Meta's second-quarter results, and the earnings themselves came in soft: Crypto Briefing reports Meta posted Q2 2026 earnings per share of $6.18, missing a consensus estimate of roughly $7.18. Yet Meta simultaneously lifted its 2026 capex guidance to a range of $130 billion to $145 billion, up from a prior forecast of $125 billion to $145 billion, after spending $31.1 billion in the second quarter alone. Meta's management said the company is supply-constrained and is prioritizing near-term capacity for training models, serving agents, and expanding its data centers.
Why TSMC rode along with Nvidia
Nvidia designs the dominant share of GPUs powering AI workloads but outsources fabrication to TSMC, so a jump in Nvidia orders typically feeds higher wafer starts at the foundry. According to Crypto Briefing, Ark's Nvidia purchases totaled an estimated 73,000 to 79,000 shares worth $14 million to $15.5 million. Its TSMC buying spanned $14 million to $20 million across the ARKK, ARKQ, ARKW, and ARKX funds, including one tranche of 37,916 TSMC shares valued at around $14.2 million. TSMC's own results support the thesis: revenue climbed 36% year over year to $40.2 billion last quarter as net income surged 77.4%.
A rotation out of megacaps and into chips
At the same time, Crypto Briefing reports Ark was trimming its positions in Amazon, Alphabet, and Shopify. Combined, the Nvidia and TSMC purchases represented roughly $30 million in fresh capital moving into chip stocks. Both Nvidia and TSMC currently trade at roughly 25 times forward earnings, a level that sits well below prior levels witnessed during earlier cycles of the AI revolution.
