Europe's Bitcoin market has gained 4% since early September, while the US market has slipped 3% over the same stretch, even as American spot ETFs posted their biggest weekly inflow in about a year. Price and demand data point in different directions, and Europe has just launched a new euro-hedged product of its own.
Bitcoin's rally is splitting along geographic lines. Europe's Bitcoin market has climbed 4% since early September even as the US market fell 3%, and the divergence shows up in both price history and demand signals.
Price swings from $75,000 to the mid-$80,000s
Bitcoin sat near $75,000 in mid-September 2026. It then climbed to over $87,000 by September 23 before drifting back to stabilize in the $83,000 to $85,000 range. The Coinbase Premium Index, which compares Bitcoin's price on Coinbase against global platforms such as Binance, has flagged soft US buying beneath that move.
Around October 3, 2026, the index had printed negative values for 29 consecutive days, ranging from –0.01% to –0.03%, indicating American buyers were bidding below the rest of the world. CryptoQuant's apparent spot demand metric showed a contraction of around 170,000 BTC over the 30 days leading into early October, reinforcing the same signal.
ETF inflows complicate the picture
Yet the ETF side tells a different story. During the week of September 21-25, 2026, US spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in net inflows of approximately $2.39 billion, the largest weekly net inflow in about a year, led by products from BlackRock and Fidelity. ETF buyers tend to be institutions and advisers trading through brokerage accounts, a different pool of activity than the exchange-level Coinbase premium, so a strong ETF week next to a negative premium suggests US demand is uneven rather than uniformly strong.
Europe adds a euro-hedged product
Europe, meanwhile, is building out its toolkit. On September 29, 2026, HANetf launched what it billed as the first euro-hedged Bitcoin exchange-traded commodity, aimed at investors who want Bitcoin exposure without also riding swings in the dollar-euro exchange rate. The launch arrives as the EU's MiCA crypto framework firms up across member states.
Watch the Coinbase premium for signs US buyers are returning, and watch whether Europe's product launches turn a 4% outperformance into something larger.
