Binance will briefly halt US stock trading on August 8 for a scheduled system upgrade, and separately delist four spot pairs, including one quoted against Bitcoin, on August 7. The exchange says the removals do not affect the underlying tokens, which stay tradable on other pairs.
Binance will pause US stock trading for about three hours on August 8 while a partner broker runs a scheduled system upgrade. During that window, users will not be able to access the stock trading service on the platform.
The exchange has briefly paused parts of its platform for upgrades before. It recently ran Tron network wallet maintenance that made TRX deposits and withdrawals unavailable for about an hour. It also suspended ZEC deposits and withdrawals around a Zcash hard fork.
Binance regularly reviews its spot pairs and removes ones that fall short on liquidity and volume. Based on its latest review, it will delist QNT/BTC, RPL/USDC, SIGN/BNB and SKL/USDC on August 7. The exchange said the change leaves the underlying tokens tradable through other pairs on its platform, adding that it "does not affect the availability of the tokens on Binance Spot".
Reaction to the announcements has stayed muted so far, with no sharp drop in the affected coins. That is normal, since such a reaction usually follows a full delisting rather than a pair removal. Losing support from the leading exchange still tends to mean reduced availability, thinner liquidity and reputational damage for a token.
Earlier this month, Binance delisted Across Protocol, Hashflow, PIVX, Vulcan Forged PYR, Vanar and Viction, and their prices fell by double digits.
