The Bank of France will probably revise down its 2026 growth forecast after the French economy unexpectedly shrank in the third quarter. Governor Emmanuel Moulin called the current outlook too optimistic. The bank is due to publish updated projections in December.
Governor Emmanuel Moulin said the Bank of France will probably revise down its 2026 economic-growth forecast, according to Bloomberg reporting. Activity unexpectedly shrank in the third quarter.
The French economy contracted by 0.1% in the third quarter of 2026. However, the bank's current outlook sees expansion of 0.4% this year, and a very strong final three months would be required to reach that number.
Speaking at the Jeco conference in Lyon, Moulin said: "We'll certainly have to revise it a little bit, slightly lower." He added that, unfortunately, he thinks the current forecast is a bit too optimistic.
The Bank of France is due to update its macroeconomic projections in December, after the next interest-rate meeting of the European Central Bank.
